Just chillin...looking forward to Feb.

I love this little photo that my brother took yesterday when trying out Instagram on my mom's phone.  It's a glimpse of what we love to do on the weekends (when we can). Chill.  Take a break, put on warm socks, curl up with a phone, book, or movie, and chill. 

We are thrilled that February is finally starting this week. We have been so excited for this month to come!  We're getting a new nephew on (or about) the 15th.  Can't beat that.  We cannot wait to hold that little one in our arms! 

A few days before that, we are crazy excited that we get to fly to LA to attend this:

4th of July clip

My sister and brother and I were excited to be part of a 4th of July concert last week.  Well, excited until we peeked at the audience before going out and saw how many people were there!  The little amphitheater was packed, there were at least 1,400 people (which is 2,800 eyes watching).  I got really nervous, but we made it through it!  It was really neat to look out at the crowd and see so many people wearing red, white, and blue!

A few people asked if we taped the performance.  Here is a clip from it!  We mixed two fiddle songs (Orange Blossom Special and Devil Went down to Georgia) into one.  We had fun coming up with three part harmonies for parts of it. Luke's version of Devil was created 'in his head'...so Ash and I learned it by ear (no music) which was pretty difficult to do in a week.  That is probably what made me so nervous, knowing that I didn't feel prepared enough.  But we were pretty happy with the outcome, we always have such a good time playing together.

MUSE

Muse. What an awesome name for a band. I like it on so many levels.  And any alternative rock group that writes a 13 minute symphony...you know I'm in.

I better admit that I didn't know too much about Muse until one of their songs was on Twilight (think 'Baseball scene'). Not long after seeing the movie I found out  my brother Luke had a bunch of their music.  He gave me copies and I became a fan.

Luke and I had planned on going to the show together ever since we heard they were coming.  When Scott went to buy tickets for us, he picked one up for himself too!  A few weeks after that, he got buyers remorse and didn't want to go anymore :)  Eventually, he figured that even if he isn't into the music, it would still be fun to go and try something new.  The majority of concerts Scott (and I)  had been to in the past were country.

We were excited when we found out our cousins from down south were going to the show too! We met up for dinner before the concert and had fun catching up. Lucky for us they were staying at a hotel nearby so we all car-pooled and avoided paying $10 for parking at the concert.  Score!

We all (Scott too) LOVED the show.  Their stage was cool and they sounded as good (if not better) than their recordings.  That is always a good surprise when someone sounds good live.

Of course it's one of those things that is hard to picture unless you were there...so I won't go into too many details.  It was just a great night we had really been looking forward too.

After seeing this show full of lasers, smoke, rising set pieces, guitar riffs and high energy, Scott said "How am I ever going to go to another country concert?"  Ha ha, we still love our country...but he's got a point :)

He Came! We Saw!

Remember we got to see Wicked in April? Well Friday we were able to check another 'entertainment must see' experience off our list. The king of country George Strait was here in concert on Friday.
We have always wanted to see this show. The last time George was in Utah was 10 or 11 years ago! He was just as wonderful as we hoped. Man that guy has 57 #1 hits. Every song he sang in that two hours was a song we knew. Here we are in the car after the show...waiting in a line of 10,000 cars to get out of the parking lot. Scott is sporting my 'poser' cowboy hat. I got a few looks from some of the many true cowboys there; I don't think they approved of my little straw imitation hat :)

p.s. quick update: look who came home today (Monday)! Jenna and I are excited to have her back. Her homecoming is August 9th at 11 am.

RECAP

Hi there,
Looks like I'm about as consistent at blogging as I am writing in my journal. I'll work on frequenting both more... here's the top five highlights of the last six weeks for me:

10 Cutler Family Fiddlers debut concert- Doing the community concert was so so fun. About 500 people showed up (including our whole dentist office!). It was one of the coolest things I've ever done. It was a lot of work but so worth it! Such a great opportunity!

9 First Solo Plane Ride- I had a blast flying to Reno for a weekend with the Fallon crew. I flew standby which was crazy. I fell in love with lake Tahoe, ate at in 'n out, went to an antique car show, drove on the loneliest highway in America, and had a run in with a mongoose...It was a great time with Scott!

8 My Best Friend is Pregnant- I am so excited for Jenna to have a baby. Don't tell Greg, but I'm crossing my fingers for a little girl! I'm getting ready to become auntie heather. I almost ran the car off the freeway when she told me..it was quite a surprise!

7 Josh Groban: part two - I attended my second Josh Groban concert of the year. It was awesome! This guy is the absolute best singer and performer. My dream is to be the barefoot violinist to go on tour with him. I don't think I'll ever get sick of listening to him.

6 Weber State: part four- School started and I'm quickly getting back into the swing of things. For the first symphony concert I get to be the assistant concertmaster...I've always wanted this opportunity! My favorite class of the semester??? Accounting. I was dreading having to take the class, but I LOVE it.

5 Scott & Heather- September 1st marks four years since Scott and I met. We sat together on the bus that day and went on our first date two days later. He's the best- he makes me laugh everyday and I still get butterflies in my stomach when I see him.
